MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Two University of Memphis men’s soccer players, senior forward Mark Sherrod and sophomore defender Austin Stone were named to the Capital One Academic All-District team, the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) announced on Thursday. CoSIDA membership voted on the all-district teams, which recognize top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom.

Sherrod earned the honor for the third consecutive season. The senior currently holds a 3.5 grade-point-average and will graduate in May with a degree in civil engineering. In 2013, the Knoxville, Tenn. native leads the Tigers in goals with seven and points with 16. He is also tied for fourth on the team in assists with two.

Sherrod now ranks third in school history in career goals (42) and career points (96).

Stone earned the all-district honor for the first time. The sophomore holds a 3.87 grade-point-average and is majoring in mechanical engineering. Stone has played in seven games this season and has missed part of the season due to injury.

The academic all-district selections will be part of a national vote later in November to determine the Capital One Academic All-America team.
