Tigers Play Final Home Game on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
Nov. 1, 2004
The No. 20 Tigers play their final home game of the season at 7 p.m. on Tuesday in a non-conference match-up with Belmont at the Mike Rose Soccer Complex.
Memphis will then play its final regular season conference game with East Carolina on Saturday at noon (CT). A win against East Carolina would make the Tigers the sole possessor of the conference regular season title.
The Tigers sit alone on top of the Conference USA standings with a 7-1-0 conference record. The seven conference wins are the most conference wins ever in a season for Memphis. The most conference wins the U of M ever had came in 2000 when they went 6-4-0 in C-USA, including the postseason.
The Tigers are 7-1-0 all-time against Belmont and have outscored them 32-5. The first meeting between the two schools came in 1996, with Memphis winning 6-0. Last year the Tigers beat the Bruins 5-1 in Nashville. The Tigers are 4-0 at home against Belmont. The only loss to the Bruins came at Belmont in 1997. Memphis has a six game winning streak against the Bruins.
Memphis is 2-0-1 all-time against East Carolina and have outscored them 7-5. The first meeting between the two schools came in 2001, with Memphis winning 3-2. Last year the Tigers tied the Pirates 2-2 in Memphis. The Tigers are 1-0 at East Carolina. The past two meetings have gone into overtime.
If the Tigers win against East Carolina, they will become only the second C-USA team to ever win eight games or more in conference play. Saint Louis finished 9-1-0 in the conference in 2001 when the conference was an 11 team league.
On Tuesday, the Tiger soccer seniors will be honored after the game. Tickets are $2 for adults and free for children under 18 and students with their ID card.
