Sherrod Invited to 2014 Adidas MLS Player Combine
Dec. 11, 2013
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – University of Memphis men’s soccer student-athlete Mark Sherrod earned an invitation to the 2014 Adidas MLS Player Combine, Major League Soccer (MLS) announced on Wednesday afternoon.
Sherrod is one of 50 NCAA Division I college seniors to be invited to the pre-draft event, which will be held January 10-14 in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. The combine gives those invited a chance to impress the coaching staffs of the 19 MLS franchises before the MLS SuperDraft on Jan. 16 in Philadelphia.
Sherrod becomes the first Tiger to be invited to the MLS Player Combine. Two former Tigers, Andy Metcalf and Dayton O’Brien (both played at Memphis from 2002-05), were each drafted in 2006 but did not attend the pre-draft combine. Metcalf was drafted in the supplemental draft by D.C. United, while O’Brien was a third-round selection of the Columbus Crew in Jan. 2006.
Sherrod, Metcalf and O’Brien all had outstanding careers while at Memphis. Sherrod ranks third in program history in both goals (42) and points (96). Metcalf ranks fourth in career goals with 39 and tied for fourth in career points with 90. O’Brien is tied with Liam Collins for the most assists in school history (34), and ranks sixth in program history with 82 career points.
