NSCAA Scholar All-America Team

MEMPHIS, Tenn.-University of Memphis junior forward Mark Sherrod was named to the 2012 National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Men’s University Division Scholar All-America first team, the organization announced, Monday. The award recognizes student-athletes for their dual accomplishments on the field and in the classroom.

To be considered for the honor, the athlete must attain a 3.30 GPA on a 4.0 scale. Sherrod holds a 3.48 GPA majoring in civil engineering. During the 2012 season, the Knoxville, Tenn., native recorded 12 goals, 4 assists and 28 points.

For his efforts on the field, Sherrod received All-Conference USA first team honors and was named the 2012 C-USA Offensive Player of the Year award for the second straight year. Most recently, the junior was named to the NSCAA All-Midwest Region first team.

Just as impressive as his numerous athletic achievements, Sherrod also received numerous academic accolades in 2012. Among the academic honors were: 2012 Capital One Academic All-America second team, 2012 Capital One Academic All-District Team, and C-USA All-Academic Team.
