Sherrod, Uzcategui Earn All-Region Academic Honors

MEMPHIS, Tenn. - Mark Sherrod and Cody Uzcategui were selected as 2013 NSCAA University Division Men's Scholar All-South Region honorees, the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) announced on Tuesday.
Sherrod was named to the 2013 NSCAA University Division Men's Scholar All-South Region First Team for the second consecutive year. The senior forward plans to graduate in May 2014 with a 3.5 GPA and a degree in civil engineering.
Sherrod led the team in goals (seven) and points (16) during the 2013 season. Last week, the Knoxville, Tenn. native was named an NSCAA All-America Third Team selection for the second time in his career, and was also named a CoSIDA Academic All-American earlier this month.
Sherrod also became the first Memphis men's soccer student-athlete to earn an invitation to the 2014 Adidas MLS Player Combine, which will take place Jan. 10-14 in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. The 2014 MLS SuperDraft will be held Jan. 16 in Philadelphia.
Redshirt sophomore goalkeeper Cody Uzcategui was a 2013 NSCAA University Division Men's Scholar All-South Region honorable mention selection. The Tigers starting goalkeeper has a 3.8 GPA and is majoring in accounting.
This season, Uzcategui posted an 8-7-1 record in goal with a career-high five shutouts.
The Orlando, Fla. native has also received numerous academic honors at Memphis. Uzcategui was a C-USA Academic Medalist in 2012 and a member of the Tiger 3.0 Club and the Dean's List in the fall of 2012.
