Sherrod Selected to the NSCAA Scholar All-American Team

MEMPHIS, Tenn. - University of Memphis senior forward Mark Sherrod was named to the 2013 NSCAA Men's University Division Scholar All-America First Team, the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) announced on Wednesday. Sherrod was the lone men's student-athlete from the American Athletic Conference to be recognized. The award recognizes student-athletes for their dual accomplishments on the field and in the classroom.
Sherrod earned a spot on the NSCAA first team for the second consecutive year, also receiving the honor in 2012.
To be considered for the honor, the student-athlete must maintain a 3.30 GPA, play in at least 50 percent of his team's games, and be a major contributor to his team's success. Sherrod plans to graduate in May 2014 with a 3.5 GPA and is majoring in civil engineering.
The Knoxville, Tenn. native was also selected to the 2013Capital One/CoSIDA Academic All-America Second Team earlier this month. Sherrod is a two-time selection for that team as well (2012).
On the field in 2013, Sherrod led the team in goals with seven and points with 16. He was an NSCAA Third Team All-America selection and an All-American Athletic Conference First Team selection. He finishes his Memphis career third in program history in career goals (42) and career points (96).
Sherrod will travel to Fort Lauderdale, Fla. next month for the 2014 Adidas MLS Player Combine, as one of 50 invitees for the event, which takes place Jan. 10-14. The 2014 MLS SuperDraft is on Jan. 16 in Philadelphia.
