Men's Tennis Earns Four All-Conference Honors

Salisbury, O'Hare and Glennon all earn post-season honors.

Fall 2002: Tore a ligament in his foot during his first match of the fall season and missed the remainder of the fall schedule.

Spring 2002: Posted a 12-11 record in singles, including a 10-8 mark at No. 2 singles and a 2-0 mark at No. 3...Teamed with Michael Chamberlain to post an 18-3 record at No. 2 doubles...Was named to the C-USA Commissioner's Honor Roll and received a C-USA Commissioner's Academic Medal for having a GPA of 3.75 or higher...Also received the C-USA Sportsmanship Award.

Spring 2001: Schmulian moved around in the Tigers' singles lineup, finishing the season with a 16-9 overall record, including a mark of 10-6 at No. 2 singles...He earned Third Team All Conference USA honors after the Tigers finished fifth at the league championships...Schmulian teamed with fellow newcomer Michael Chamberlain to post a mark of 15-6 at No. 2 doubles after an outstanding fall season together.

Fall 2000: Was named to the Tiger Academic 30 for having one of the 30 highest GPA's in all of Tiger Athletics after posting a perfect 4.0 during his first semester of college...Schmulian teamed with Michael Chamberlain to make an immediate impact on the Tiger lineup after joining the team for the first time in 2000...The duo began the season with a second-place finish at the Middle Tennessee State Fall Invitational...They also advanced to the finals of the Flight II doubles bracket at the Southern Collegiate Championships, which helped qualify them for the prestigious ITA All-American tournament...At the ITA Region III Championships, the duo won two matches before being eliminated by the No. 10 seed from Mississippi State...The pair was 10-4 in doubles in the fall...Schmulian was also an outstanding 9-5 in singles play.

Summer 2000: Qualified for the ITA Summer Nationals after winning the ITA SE Region at North Carolina where he advanced to the quarterfinals, upsetting Ryan Moore (Ranked #36 in pre-season), from Southern Cal, 6-7, 6-3, 6-3....He then defeated Yorke Allen from Duke, 2-6, 7-5, 6-1...He fell in quarterfinals to 5th-seeded John Paul Fruterro (ranked No. 29 in Region VIII) from Cal., 6-2, 4-6, 6-1...He also participated in men's and mixed doubles...Schmulian won two of the three ITA Summer Circuit tournaments he entered.

At University of Pretoria (South Africa), 1998-99: Was the team captain and guided team to a 19-1 record at No. 1 singles...Schmulian was 18-3 in singles and 22-1 in doubles, losing only four doubles matches in two years....Has a career record of 38-7 at No. 1 singles and 42-2 in doubles.

Prep: Attended Hugenote High School in Springs, South Africa... Played on all-area winning tennis team as well as all-state cricket and track championship teams...Lettered in rugby, cricket, tennis and track...Did not lose a singles match in four years at No. 1 at Hugenote....He was ranked in the top 10 in doubles nationally for boys 18's for two consecutive years and was the South African Junior National boys 18's double champion in 1997...Finished fifth overall in singles that same year...Maintained a 3.7 GPA all through high school...Was a deputy head boy for his senior year (1997)....Was a South African Universities first team to compete at the world student games in 1998 and 1999...Received the junior sportsman of the year award in 1995 and the senior sportsman award in 1997...Was named the cricket MVP in 1996...Lost in the finals of the Solent International Grass Court tournament in Britain in 1995 in a Boys 16 tournament...Played prep tennis under Jack Fenwick.

Personal: Born April 19, 1979 in Delmas, South Africa...Son of Joseph and Ilka Schmulian...Enjoys chess and carpentry and attending movies and having barbeques in his free time...Schmulian grew up on a dairy farm and has one older sister, Amy...Favorite movies are Gladiator and We Were Soldiers...Favorite band is U2...After he graduates from Memphis he plans on playing tennis for awhile and then working on his master's degree...Lists his goal for the upcoming season as earning first team all-conference honors...Would like to tour the world...Also received scholarship offers from VCU and Oregon... Majoring in management information systems.
