Tiger 3.0 Club (Spring 2006)

Spring 2006 (Sophomore): Teamed with James Spence and capped the season as the No. 45 ranked doubles team in the country after going 12-4 at No. 1 doubles...Was 1-2 against ranked doubles opponents during the spring and went 7-3 over their final 10 matches of the season to finish the year among the national rankings...Was 5-12 in singles, going 4-6 at No. 4, 1-0 at No. 3, 0-1 at No. 2 and 0-5 at No. 1 singles...Returned to the Tiger roster in January of 2006.

2003-04 (Freshman): Posted a 7-7 mark in singles and a 5-4 record in doubles...Was 7-6 at No. 5 singles and 0-3 against C-USA competition...Teamed with Alex Jago for one doubles match, with Alex Bucewicz for four matches and with Luke Campbell for four matches.

Prep: Was a four-year letterwinner in tennis and a five-year letterwinner in rugby at Barker...Also played cricket...His boys tennis team won the CAS Open men's tennis school boys championship and he received gold awards for tennis and rugby...His Barker College team won championships from 1996-2001 and he won the Northern Suburbs Open men's championship in 2001...Also won the Austarlian Hardcourt championships in 2001 in doubles and the Metropolitan Open men's doubles championship in 2002...Also won the German Junior ITF singles championship,, teopen school boys singles championship (2003) and the Oceanic Open Championship in 2002...Was the captain of his tennis team from 2002-03 and was the NSW schoosl team captain in 2002-03...Was also rugby captain in 2001 and music captain in 2003...Was a member of the NSW Pizzey Cup team in 2002-03 and the NSW Bruce Cup team in 1996-97...Was a member of the CAS open men's school team from 2002-03...Won a gold award for rugby in 2001 and athletics in 2000...He won the CAS athletics (track and field) shot put and high jump titles in 1998-99...Holds the school athletic shot put record of 11.98 meters from 1999 ... Won the Oceanic junior ITF doubles championships and advanced to the singles quarterfinals...Made it to the third round of the Junior Australian Open and the second round of doubles...Was a quarterfinalist in the ITF European singles championships and won the ITF Czech singles title.

Personal: Born December 16, 1985 in Sydney...Son of Craig and Amanda Withell...His uncle, Rick, represented Australia in volleyball, while his grandpa represented Australia in rugby...His older sister represented Australia in softball...Lists his greatest on-court moment as winning the Australian Hardcourt Junior Championships...Lists his goal for this season as making the starting six singles and winning matches...Plans on either playing the professional circuit or working after graduating from Memphis...Would like to play a match in California and wants to play Rice...Was also recruited by Harvard, Illinois, Rice and Yale...Is majoring in sport management at the U of M...Choose Memphis because of coaches Chamberlain and Goebel and because of the schedule and the facilities.
