Men's Tennis Off to Solid Start at USF Tournament

TAMPA, Fla. - The University of Memphis men's tennis team opened its spring season at the USF Invitational against nationally-ranked William & Mary, Friday. With the Tigers' No. 8 ranked doubles team of James Spence and Alex Jago back in Memphis due to an injury and with three new players at the semester break getting ready for classes to start, Tuesday, Memphis took just four players to the USF tournament. Junior Michael Jetter dropped a tough opening-match gainst Alex Cojanu, 6-3, 6-7 (6), 1-0 (10-3) before falling 6-3, 6-4 to Colin O'Brian in the afternoon's second match. Freshman Matt Brewer posted the Tigers' lone singles win of the day, downing Dominic Pagon, 6-1, 6-7 (6), 1-0 (10-6) in the morning match. Junior Garrison Pilant also battled through a tough three-set loss, falling to Kavi Sud, 4-6, 6-2, 1-0 (10-6). Memphis will face Clemson Saturday morning at 10 a.m., then will play host USF, Sunday.
