Men's Tennis Picks up Two Doubles Wins to Start Spring Play

The University of Memphis men's tennis team picked up a pair of doubles wins to start the MLK Invitational at Georgia Tech, Saturday. The Tigers got a doubles win from the new tandem of Ian Chadwell and Johnny Grimal, 6-2, while Connor Glennon and Cedric De Zutter also added a 6-2 win in their first match of the spring.
The Tigers' No. 3 ranked tandem of Joe Salisbury and David O'Hare drew the No. 12 ranked Georgia team of Ben Wagland and Hernus Pieters in their first round match, and fell, 6-3, in their first spring result.
The Tigers' first singles matches of the spring were tough ones, with five Tigers facing a ranked opponent to start the spring. Senior Joe Salisbury picked up his first win over a ranked singles opponent, upending No. 48 Ben Wagland, 5-6, 6-3, 6-4.
Senior Cedric De Zutter also won his singles match, 6-3, 6-4, vs. Eric Diaz of Georgia.
Memphis will continue its participation at the tournament with second round matches, Sunday, at 1 p.m. The Tigers will face opponents from No. 11 Ole Miss in the second round and opponents from Georgia Tech in the third round.
