The Tigers were 6-3 against opponents from No. 11 Ole Miss on Monday.

The University of Memphis men's tennis team wrapped up the MLK Invitational tournament at Georgia Tech by posting a 6-3 mark against opponents from No. 11 Ole Miss, Monday.

"This tournament was good preparation for us for next weekend," Head Coach Paul Goebel said. "It was good for us to win some close matches to get ready for the kickoff weekend."

The Tigers started the morning by sweeping three doubles matches. The Tigers' team of Connor Glennon and Cedric De Zutter picked up a win over the No. 51 ranked team of William Kallberg/Stefan Lindmark, 6-4. Teammates David O'Hare and Joe Salisbury won their doubles match, 6-3, over the team of Nik Scholtz and Johan Backstrom and Ian Chadwell and Johnny Grimal closed out the Tiger sweep with a 6-1 win over the team of Joe Rogers and Zach Wilder.

Glennon, Grimal and Chadwell had a perfect Monday, adding wins on the singles side to finish up the tournament. Glennon defeated No. 104 William Kallberg, 6-5, 6-1, while Grimal took down Johan Backstrom, 4-6, 6-5, 6-3. Chadwell added another Tiger victory to his resume with a straight set 6-5, 6-4 victory over Zach Wilder.

Three other Tigers went three sets, but came up with losses against a tough Ole Miss lineup. Joe Salisbury fell to No. 15 Nik Scholtz, 6-0, 5-6, 6-2 and David O'Leary lost to No. 108 ranked Stefan Lindmark, 2-6, 6-2, 6-5. David O'Hare lost a first set tiebreak and came back to force a third set with a 6-3 win in the second, but fell 6-3 in the third to Vinod Gowda.

Memphis travels to Mississippi State this weekend to participate in the ITA Kickoff Classic for a second straight season. The Tigers will play their first team dual match of the spring against No. 18 South Carolina in the first round. No. 14 Mississippi State will face No. 27 Harvard on the other side of the draw. The winner of the pod qualifies for the ITA National Team Indoor Championships, hosted this year by Texas A&M in Houston at the Downtown Club and the Galleria Tennis and Athletic Club.
