MEMPHIS, Tenn. - The University of Memphis men's tennis team (1-2) opened its spring home schedule in style Saturday, sweeping UT Martin at WellWorx in Memphis.
"We had a really solid performance," Head Coach Paul Goebel said. "It was a good win for us and we got some good play throughout our line-up."
Memphis opened by sweeping the doubles point, as Amrit Narasimhan and Benedikt Fischer took the win at No. 1 doubles, 8-2. Charlie Ramsay and Jimmy Khougassian closed out the point with an 8-6 win at No. 2 doubles, and Garrison Pilant and Spencer Heflin won the No. 3 match, 8-3.
Heflin then finished his collegiate home debut with a 6-4, 6-4 win at No. 6 singles. Fellow freshman Cody Loup also battled back to pick up a win in singles, winning 6-2, 7-5 at No. 5 singles. Amrit Narasimhan was the lone Tiger to lose a set on Saturday, winning the first set 6-3, then falling 7-5 in the second set. He prevailed in a super tiebreak, 10-5, to complete the Tiger sweep.
