Men's Tennis Falls to Vanderbilt
Feb. 4, 2011 MEMPHIS, Tenn.--The No. 59 Tiger tennis team fell to No. 43 Vanderbilt on Friday afternoon in Nashville, Tenn., by a score of 7-0. After dropping all three doubles matches, Memphis (3-2, 0-1 C-USA) couldn't recover from the early 1-0 deficit to Vandy (4-1). At No. 2 doubles, the tandem of senior Jordan Smith and junior David Henry started slow, but rallied to tie things up at 4-4, before ultimately falling to Charlie Jones and Alex Zotov, 8-6. At No. 1, 52nd-ranked pair Joe Salisbury and David O'Hare fell to Adam Baker and Ryan Lipman, 8-4, and Leon Nasemann and John Taylor were upended by Bryant Salledo and Alex DiValerio, 8-5, at the No. 3 slot. Unfortunately for the U of M, netters would struggle in singles play as well. Salisbury, from London, England, fought hard in three sets with Adam Baker at the No. 2 position before falling, 4-6, 6-4, 6-2. Freshman Johnny Grimal took Bryant Salledo to three sets as well after an epic back-and-forth second set, but fell in the end, 6-2, 6-7(4), 6-4, at No. 5 singles. Memphis looks to rebound in their next match on Saturday, Feb. 5, in a match scheduled for 1 p.m. at Murray State. No. 59 Memphis 0, No. 43 Vanderbilt 7
