Men's Tennis Falls Just Short at UCF, 4-3
ORLANDO, Fla. - The University of Memphis men's tennis team dropped its sixth straight match, but not without a fight, 4-3, at UCF, Thursday. The loss drops the Tigers to 0-2 in league play with one more league contest on the slate for this weekend. Memphis will face East Carolina, Friday, at 10 a.m. Memphis started off with a 1-0 lead following wins at No. 1 and 2 doubles. The No. 19 ranked duo of James Spence and Sam Withell weathered an 8-6 win at No. 1 over the team of Norman Alcantara and Sinan Sudas, and the new pairing of Matt Brewer and Tezar Putra defeated the team of Ben Soltane and Brock Sakey, 8-5. But UCF battled back with wins at No. 1, 2, 5 and 6 singles to improve to 5-2 on the season. Sudas downed Brewer in three sets, 6-4, 2-6, 6-2, and Alamgir Wali got back Michael Jetter, 7-5, 6-4, at the top of the line-up. Senior James Spence and sophomore Sam Withell posted Memphis' lone two wins in singles. Spence downed Sebastian Delgado, 6-3, 6-4, at No. 3 while Withell used a 6-2, 6-4 straight set win to down Norman Alcantara at No. 4 singles.
