CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS - The University of Memphis men's tennis team (6-5, 1-2 C-USA) split its first two matches of the day in the HEB Invitational in Corpus Christi, Texas, Friday.
Memphis swept its opening match against Wichita State, 4-0, to advance to a match against the host team and the fourth seed of the tournament, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. The Tigers stood toe-to-tie with the nationally-ranked opponents, but dropped three-set matches at No.1 and 6 singles, while Sam Withell suffered a difficult 7-6, 7-6 loss at No. 5 singles.
All teams played shortened matches at the tournament as rain pushed the 9:30 matches start times back to noon.
