The University of Memphis men's tennis team improved to 7-2 on the season with a 6-1 win at Middle Tennessee (3-9), Sunday.
Memphis jumped up early in the match with an 8-5 win at No. 1 from the doubles team of David O'Hare and Joe Salisbury. The matches at two and three were close ones, with the match at number two going to a tiebreak. The Tiger duo of Connor Glennon and Cedric De Zutter won the tiebreak, 7-5, for the 8-7 win at No. 2, putting the Tigers up 1-0 in the match. The Tiger duo of Johnny Grimal and Ian Chadwell were tied at 6-6 when the doubles point was decided.
Joe Salisbury made it 2-0 Tigers, with a 6-1, 7-5 win at No. 2 singles. Connor Glennon quickly followed, making it 3-0 with a 6-3, 6-2 win at No. 1 singles.
Middle Tennessee then picked up its lone point of the match with a 6-4, 6-4 win at No. 5.
Senior David O'Hare then closed out the victory with a 6-4, 6-3 win at No. 6.
Tigers David O'Leary and Johnny Grimal then added a pair of wins to close out the match. O'Leary bounced back from a first set loss for a 4-6, 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 3, while Grimal won 6-3, 7-6 (8-6).
The Tigers will next be back in action in the San Diego Invitational, Mar. 20-22nd.
