MEMPHIS, Tenn. - The Memphis men's tennis team picked up a 7-0 victory over the Murray State Racers on Tuesday at the University of Memphis Tennis Courts to even their record at 7-7 on the season. The Tigers swept all doubles and singles matches against their foes from Murray State.

The Tigers started off the afternoon picking up three wins in doubles to take the early lead over Murray State, 1-0. At the No. 1 spot, David Henry and Jordan Smith improved to 9-3 on the season with an 8-4 victory over Ben Clos and Jose Berardo. Smith and Henry have been a formidable pair at the No. 1 spot this season, defeating the No. 1 teams from ranked teams Ole Miss and Iowa.

At the No. 2 doubles slot, John Taylor and Michal Janz picked up an 8-1 win over Luka Milicevic and Renaldo Domoney. Taylor and Janz are 4-1 in doubles on the year.

At No. 3 doubles, seniors Charlie Ramsay and Spencer Heflin teamed up to take down Jadir Semensin and Jorge Caetano of Murray State, 8-4. The Memphis duo is 8-4 on the year in doubles.

In singles, Ramsay, a native of Chattanooga, Tenn., upended Clos, 6-3, 7-5, to improve to 6-6 on the season. Ramsay is 3-4 at the No. 1 singles slot.

At the No. 2 slot, Smith, a junior from Memphis, Tenn., battled to win a super tiebreaker against Caetano to win the match, 6-7, 7-5, 10-7. Smith is 3-3 in singles on the season.

At No. 3 singles, Henry, a sophomore from Signal Mountain, Tenn., upended Milicevic, 6-1, 6-2. Henry currently has a 5-8 singles mark in his second year as a Tiger.

At the No. 4 spot, Janz, a junior from Lousanne, Switzerland, picked up a 6-4, 6-3, victory over Domoney. Janz has a 7-7 singles record on the season.

At No. 5 singles, Gaerthoeffner won 6-2, 6-0, over Murray State's Berardo. Gaerthoeffner leads the Tigers in singles victories with nine on the year.

 

 

At the No. 6 slot, Taylor was victorious over Mason Johnson, 6-2, 6-3. Taylor is 7-2 on the season in singles.

The Tigers will remain in Memphis for a Saturday match-up with Louisiana-Lafayette. The match is slated to begin at 12 p.m., at the University of Memphis Tennis Courts. However, if by chance inclimate weather hits the Mid-South on Saturday afternoon, the match will be moved to 5 p.m., and will be played at the indoor courts at The Racquet Club of Memphis.
