Men's Tennis Finishes Third at Hilton San Diego Mission Valley Spring Classic

SAN DIEGO, Calif. - - The University of Memphis men's tennis team (7-5) wrapped up a strong non-conference weekend with a 4-1 win at No. 37 San Diego State in the third place game of the Hilton San Diego Mission Valley Spring Classic, Saturday.
"This was one of our best matches this year," Head Coach Paul Goebelsaid. "This was a good tournament for us. We picked up two road wins at ranked opponents and got to face a top-20 program in Drake."
Memphis got on the board first with wins at No. 1 and 2 doubles. The team of David O'Hare and Joe Salisbury won at No. 2, 8-2, and the Tiger then prevailed at No. 1, 9-7, when Connor Glennon and Cedric de Zutterclosed out the doubles contest. The No. 3 match was stopped with the two teams tied at 6-6.
San Diego State picked up one singles win at No. 2, 6-3, 6-0, but the Tigers closed out the victory with wins at No. 1, 4 and 5 singles. Glennon won his match at No. 1, 6-3, 6-4 and teammates Johnny Grimal and David O'Harealso picked up straight set wins. Grimal won his match at No. 4, 6-1, 6-1 to remain perfect on the weekend, while O'Hare won his match at No. 5, 6-2, 6-2.
The Tigers will continue their tough non-conference road slate on Thursday, travelling to No. 29 Baylor for a rematch against the team that eliminated Memphis from the NCAA tournament last season. That match will be played at 6 p.m.
