Men's Tennis Closes Texas Swing With Loss at No. 36 TCU, 5-0
March 30, 2013
FORT WORTH, Texas - - The University of Memphis men's tennis team (7-7) changed up its doubles line-up and stood toe-to-toe with home-standing TCU (14-5), but came up short with a 5-0 loss to the No. 36 ranked Horned Frogs in non-conference competition, Saturday.
The Tigers rearranged their top two doubles tandems, playing David O'Hare and Joe Salisbury at No. 1, and playing Cedric de Zutter and Connor Glennon at No. 2. Memphis also played freshman Lukas Vrnak at No. 3 doubles with Johnny Grimal. The changes sparked the Tigers, but the home team used their home court advantage for 8-5 wins at No. 1 and 3 doubles.
TCU held onto the momentum, picking up singles wins at no. 4, 6 and 3 singles to decide the match in their favor. While the Horned Frogs were picking up straight set wins to take the match, the Tigers' Connor Glennon was in the midst of bouncing back from a first set loss at No. 1 and eventually won the second set, 6-3. But with the match decided, it was No. 103 ranked Nick Chappell that won the tiebreak, 10-4, sealing the 5-0 victory.
The Tigers will close out their road slate next weekend, travelling to Richmond, Va., to face No. 30 VCU, Saturday in another road match against a ranked opponent, then will stay in town to face No. 46 Louisville in a Sunday neutral site match.
