Memphis Men's Tennis Edged by DePaul 4-3
April 2, 2011 MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - Singles action was first and split evenly at three wins apiece for Memphis and 66th-ranked DePaul in the semi-finals of the Sun Belt Shootout, but the Blue Demons took the doubles point and therefore the 4-3 decision over the Tigers at the Buck Bouldin Tennis Center Saturday afternoon. David O'Hare, Leon Nasemann and Johnny Grimal notched the Tigers' three points in singles play, while Joe Salisbury, John Taylor and Cedric de Zutter suffered losses to their Blue Demon opponents to bring the match to three all. Doubles action would be needed to determine a winner. DePaul struck first at the third position where Mathis Hambach and Filip Dzanko upended Taylor and Nasemann 8-2. The Tigers would bring the match to push again when Salisbury and O'Hare took down George Chanturia and Matija Palinic 8-5 at the No. 2 slot. In dramatic fashion, the match would come down to the top doubles position. Duo Jordan Smith and David Henry traded games back and forth with Sven Kasper and Bartosz Jozwiak, ultimately dropping the nail biter 9-7. The Tigers will play for third place against Denver or Florida Atlantic for third place at 9 a.m. on Sunday to close the tournament.
