Men's Tennis Falls to Southern Miss

Playing without junior Amrit Narasimhan for a second straight match, the Tiger men's tennis team (8-10, 1-3 C-USA) was edged by Southern Miss, 4-3, Friday afternoon. Memphis led the match following doubles play, as the team of Benedikt Fischer and Cody Loup won their No. 1 doubles match, 8-4, while the team of Charlie Ramsay and Jimmy Khougassian won their No. 2 doubles match, 8-4. But USM came back behiind three set wins at No. 1, 2, 4 and 6 singles, including a 7-6, 7-6 USM win at No. 2. "We had a good team effort in some difficult outside playing conditions," Head Coach Paul Goebel said. Our guys tried hard but just came up a little short." Memphis will close out its 2006-07 home stand by hosting UALR, Wednesday. That will be the final home match for senior Garrison Pilant. The match may be moved indoors to WellWorx if the unseasonably cold weather that has come to Memphis remains. If it is moved indoor, the match time will be pushed back to 11 a.m. Singles competition
