Tigers Upend Mocs, 5-2, in Murfreesboro

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - The Memphis men's tennis team upended the Chattanooga Mocs, 5-2, on Saturday at the Buck Bouldin Tennis Center in Murfreesboro, Tenn. With the victory the Tigers even their record at 10-10 on the 2010 season. The U of M started the match by sweeping their doubles matches to capture their 13th doubles point of the season out of 20 total matches. At No. 1 doubles, the pair of Jordan Smith and David Henry upended the UTC duo of Roberto Vieira and Ryan Pool, 7-6(6). Smith and Henry are 14-4 at the No. 1 doubles spot on the year. At the No. 2 slot, Michael Janz and John Taylor dominated William Disterdick and Jackson Tresnan, 8-2. Janz and Taylor are 7-4 on the season. At No. 3 doubles, Memphis seniors Charlie Ramsay and Spencer Heflin took down Stephen Crofford and Chris Smith, 8-4. Ramsay and Heflin improve to 10-4 on the season. In singles, the Tigers raced to the victory with three straight wins to get to four points and picked up a fourth singles win after already capturing the match. At No. 2 singles, Henry, a sophomore from Signal Mountain, Tenn., just out side of Chattanooga, defeated Pool, 4-6, 6-4, 6-3. The Memphis netter is 10-9 in singles on the year. At the No. 3 slot, Ramsay upended Smith, 7-6, 7-6. The Memphis senior has a dual singles record of 10-8. At No. 5 singles, Taylor, a junior from Burlington, Ontario won a three-set battle with Disterdick, 6-4, 3-6, 6-2. Taylor is 11-4 on the season. At the No. 6 spot, Michael Gaerthoeffner defeated Crofford, 6-2, 6-1. Gaerthoeffner continues to lead all Tigers in singles wins with a record of 13-7.
