Men's Tennis Sweeps UCF, 7-0

The No. 26 University of Memphis men's tennis team (12-4, 2-0 The American) swept conference foe UCF (11-5, 0-2 The American), 7-0, Friday afternoon. The win sets up a Sunday showdown with No. 25 USF for the possible top seed in next week's American Athletic Conference championship. That match aaginst USF will be played at The Racquet Club of Memphis at noon, Sunday.
Memphis jumped out to an early 1-0 lead behind doubles wins from the ones and twos. The team of David O'Hare and Joe Salisbury posted the afternoon's first win, with an 8-3 decision at No. 1, while the team of Cedric De Zutter and Connor Glennon added an 8-5 win at No. 2 for the early 1-0 lead in the match.
Glennon then got the Tigers' first singles victory, posting a 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 1 for a 2-0 Tiger lead. Salisbury was next in the books with a win, with the 6-1, 6-4 decision at No. 2 and Johnny Grimal sealed the win with a 6-2, 7-5 win at No. 3 for Memphis' 12th victory of the season.
The two teams played out the remaining matches with the match already decided, and Memphis added three more points for the 7-0 victory. David O'Leary added a 6-1, 6-3 win at No. 4, followed by an O'Hare win in a tiebreak after splitting the first two sets at No. 6. Ian Chadwell completed the sweep with a 6-4, 6-3 decision at No. 5.
Sunday will be Memphis' final regular season match and the visit from No. 25 ranked USF will be the first for a ranked opponent since Paul Goebel took over the Tigers' program in 2004-05.
