MEMPHIS - -
Playing in their first home match after an 11-match road trip, the University of Memphis men's tennis team (10-7, 1-0 C-USA) had a tangle with UAB (14-10, 0-1 C-USA) for the doubles point, but prevailed in straight sets for the 4-0 victory Friday at The Racquet Club of Memphis.
No. 59 ranked Joe Salisbury and Connor Glennon jumped out to a quick lead with an 8-3 win at No. 1 doubles, but the UAB tandem at No. 2 grabbed the match there to force the doubles point onto the results of the match at No. 3. But Memphis' Johnny Grimal and Lukas Vrnak prevailed there, 8-5, to put the Tigers up 1-0.
Junior David O'Hare made it 2-0 in short order, winning his match at No. 6 singles, 6-1, 6-0. The Tigers' top two singles players closed out the match, with Glennon winning his eighth match of the year at No. 1, 6-1, 6-2, and Salisbury winning his match at No. 2, 6-3, 6-2 to close out the victory.
The Tigers will remain at home for a Sunday match against South Alabama. That match will be played at noon at The Racquet Club of Memphis. Admission to the match is free.
