Hattiesburg, Miss.-- - Despite the No. 1 doubles team of Alistair Todd (Perth, West Australia) and Ben Stapp (Sydney, Australia) upsetting the No. 54 ranked team of Alexander Jung and Tom Dalby, 8-3, the University of Memphis (15-14) men's tennis team fell 8-0 to No. 24 UAB in the quarterfinals of the Conference USA men's tennis tournament, Friday.

Memphis now faces No. 4 seed South Florida in the consolation bracket at noon, Saturday with the winner earning a chance at a fifth place finish in a match at noon, Sunday. The loser of that match plays for seventh place at 9 a.m., Sunday.

The team of Todd/Stapp downed the No. 1 duo of Jung/Dalby, which was ranked No. 54 in the country by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association, 8-3. That win was the duo's 18th win of the season.

The Tigers fell in the other two doubles matches, losing the team doubles point in the process. Sophomore Richard Magney (Sydney, Australia) then tried to rally for a singles win to keep Memphis' hope of an upset alive against the 14th ranked player in the country, Martin Woisetchlager. Magney took Woisetchlager to a tie break in the first set, but was outscored 7-3 in the tie break to lose the first set 7-6. The sophomore battled was unable to mount a second set comeback, falling 6-4.

UAB only needed two other singles matches to sew up the win. Alexander Jung avenged his doubles' team loss to Ben Stapp with a 6-1, 6-3 win over the freshman at No. 4 singles. Paul Shovlin finished the win with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Chris Buckley.

Memphis falls to 15-14 on the season, but has a shot at repeating last year's consolation bracket championship. The Tigers face South Florida, Saturday. The Bulls were upset by No. 5 DePaul, 4-1, Friday. This will be the first time the two teams have met.
