Men's Tennis Advances to C-USA Semifinals

The University of Memphis men's tennis team (12-7) downed UAB (15-11) for the second time in a week to advance to the Conference USA semifinals with a 4-0 victory, Friday, at the Dunavant-Wellford Tennis Center on the campus of MUS. Memphis will face No. 6 seeded Rice, Saturday, at noon in the semifinal match. Rice upset No. 3 seeded Tulane, 4-3, in their quarterfinal round on Friday.
Memphis jumped out to a quick start, with an 8-1 win at No. 2 doubles and sealed the doubles point with an 8-5 win at No. 1 from the nationally-ranked tandem of David O'Hare and Joe Salisbury, the No. 51 ranked duo in the country.
Once the match moved into singles play, it was Salisbury who stretched the Tigers' lead to 2-0, hurrying out to a 6-1 first set victory, then coming back in the second set and winning 7-5. Teammate David O'Leary made it 3-0 a short time later, winning his match at No. 5, 6-3, 6-3. Connor Glennon then closed out the win with a 6-2, 6-4 victory at No. 1 singles to advance to the Tigers into the semifinals of the C-USA Men's Tennis Championship.
Memphis will face Rice, Saturday, in one of two semifinals that will be played beginning at noon. Top seeded Tulsa will face SMU in the other semifinal while Memphis is facing Rice. Admission to the matches is free.
