Finnegan to Play For Singles and Possibly Doubles Crowns

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - Senior Mark Finnegan will play at 12:30 p.m. Sunday for the B1 Singles crown at the Middle Tennessee Fall Invitational. The Memphis senior will face Southern Illinois' Tomas Gonzalez in the final after defeating teammate Scott Felsenthal, 6-1, 7-5, in the first semifinal in the B1 Singles bracket.

Freshman Bryan Bankester also advanced to the semifinals, this time in the B2 singles bracket, but suffered his first collegiate loss, 6-0, 6-0, to Sam Huffman from South Alabama. Teammate Garrison Pilant also fell in the other semifinal of the B2 singles draw, 6-4, 6-1, to Belmont's Ignacio Gesto.

Junior James Spence will play for a singles consolation title in the A1 singles draw. He will face either teammate Alex Bucewicz (who won his consolation match, 4-6, 6-4, 10-7) or Cumberland's Will Edmonds. Also playing in the backdraw on Sunday will be junior Alex Jago. Jago will face Southern Illinois' Alex Nomicos Sunday in the second semifinal of the Consolation A2 singles draw.

In doubles, the Tiger duo of Sam Withell and Finnegan will play a semifinal against the host duo of Brandon Allan and Kai Schledorn of Middle Tennessee in the first semifinal at 9 a.m. of the No. 1 doubles draw to be the only Tiger duo in the semifinal matches.

Memphis will complete the tournament Sunday at Middle Tennessee, before returning home to begin preparing for the Arkansas Invitational, Oct. 8-10th.
