LAFAYETTE, La. - David Henry and K.C. Griffin, two freshman on the Memphis men's tennis team, will face-off in the finals match of the ULL Invitational D Flight after both advanced to the finals on Sunday. Griffin and Henry have yet to lose a singles match in Fall tournament play. Both players won their flights at the 2008 Blue and Gray Invitational in Montgomery, Ala.

Henry, a freshman from Signal Mountain, Tenn., received a first round bye, and move on to the second round to play Hutton Jones of Ablilene Christian. Henry upended Jones, 6-4, 6-0. Abilene Christian finished last year as the No. 21 Div II program in the country. Jones was 4-0 in singles play last season. In the third round, Henry defeated Michael Browder, 6-4, 6-4.

Henry's teammate, K.C. Griffin won, 6-3, 6-1, over Ryan Charles of Grambling in the first round of play. Griffin followed up that performance with a 6-0, 6-1, defeat of Hugo Vidal of Southern Illinois. Vidal was 15-11 in singles play last season. In the third round, Griffin defeated Felipe Sylva of Southern Miss, 6-3, 6-4.

In Flight A action, Jorge Vazquez won three matches. In th first round, he defeated Samford's Brian Dushock, 6-4, 6-2. Vazquez moved on in the tournament following a win over LSU's Julien Gauthier, 4-6, 6-4, 6-2. In the thrid round, Vazquez upended Dennis Polyakov of Rice, 5-7, 6-3, 6-1. Vazquez was knocked out of the tournament in his fourth round match vs. Patricio Alvarado of Southern Miss, 6-3, 6-0.

U of M's Michael Gaerthoeffner won two matches in the tournament. In the first round of Flight B play, Gaerthoeffner won 6-1, 6-0, over Southeastern Louisiana's Pavol Derkay. He defeated Ryan Lissner of LSU, 6-1, 6-1, in the seoond round. Gaerthoeffner was knocked out of the ULL Invitational with a loss to Vlad Popa of Nicholls State, 6-4, 7-5.
