Senior Alistair Todd Still Alive in Championship at MTSU Tennis Tournament

Murfreesboro, Tenn.--- - Tiger tennis player Alistair Todd, a No. 5 seed at the Middle Tennessee State tournament in B Singles, advanced to the semifinals with an upset of No. 3 seeded Brad Hambrick, 6-2, 6-4, Saturday. Todd will face Evansville's Tomas Johansson in the semifinals, Sunday. Johansson eliminated No. 1 seeded Jens Frederiksen, Friday.
In A Singles, Tigers Richard Magney and Joe Schmulian were upended in the quarterfinals. Magney lost to top-seeded Eddie Coates from Vanderbilt, 1-6, 7-6, 7-10, while Schmulian, a No. 3 seed, was upset by Arkansas-Little Rock's Domenico Manra, 3-6, 5-7.
Sophomor e Ben Stapp, who fell in his A singles match yesterday, won his opening match in the consolation bracket, downing Middle Tennessee's Kirk Jackson, 6-1, 3-6, 10-6. But Stapp's tournament was ended by Evansville's Anthony Wollschlager with a 4-6, 1-6 loss.
Senior Chris Buckley, who received a forfeit in yesterday's B consolation match, fell to UALR's Luciano Diez, 4-6, 3-6, to end his singles tournament, Saturday.
In doubles play, the No. 2 seeded team of Stapp and Todd was upset by Brad Hambrick and Lewis Smith from Vanderbilt, 3-8, in the Round of 16. But the Tigers other double team in the A bracket advanced to the quarterfinals. Schmulian and Michael Chamberlain teamed together to down Middle Tennessee's Kirk Jackson and Michael Staniak, 8-4. That duo will play Murray State's team of Nikloa Aracic and Thiago Gondim in their quarterfinal match, Sunday.
The team of Stapp and Todd will play Morehead's Eduardo Richelle and Benjamin Schmid in the consolation quarterfinals, Sunday.
Also playing in a championship bracket semifinal, Sunday, is the team of Jack Hu and LaHaie. They will face UT-Martin's team of Danilo Castro and Dewit Stegman.
