Men's Tennis Advances Three to Quarters

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The three members of the University of Memphis men's tennis team who traveled to Jacksonville for the North Florida Invitational all advanced to Saturday play in the singles bracket with straight set wins in first round action. In Flight A Singles, Charlie Ramsay won a first set tiebreak, then closed out the win with a 6-2 second set win over Florida Atlantic Karol Samurlo to advance to a Saturday quarterfinal against Georgia Southern's Emmanuel Knoeleue. Likewise, in B Singles, Spencer Heflin downed Georgia Southern's Phillip Prins, 6-4, 6-1 to advance to a quarter contest against UNF's Yuiti Lopes. In C Singles, freshman Michael Gaerthoeffner defeated UNF's Andres Monje, 6-3, 6-1, and will face Samford's Adam Witcher, Saturday at 10 a.m. In doubles, the team of Heflin and Ramsay lost their opening match, 8-4, to Troy's Benjamin Chomette and Bastian Maucher in the Round of 16.
