Witten and the LSU Duo of Skupski and Growcott Win ITA Titles

MEMPHIS, Tenn. - - Top seeded Jesse Witten of Kentucky came back from a 6-4 first set loss and from 5-1 down in the second set to win 4-6, 7-6, 6-1 in the singles championship match against Georgia's Matic Omerzel in the Wilson/ITA Southeast Men's Tennis Regional, Monday.
On the doubles side, the No. 9 seeded team of Mark Growcott and Ken Skupski of LSU defeated the team of Janne Holmia and Greg Oullette of Florida, 8-5, in the championship match to pick up the bid to the ITA Indoor Championships in doubles. Both Witten and Omerzel will also advance to the ITA Indoor Championships.
The ITA National Indoor Championships are the nation's premier collegiate indoor tennis tournament. The National Indoor Championships is the second of three national championship events for the college tennis circuit. The first event, the Riviera/ITA Women's and IcyHot/ITA men's All-American Championships, were held earlier this month. The third event is the season-ending NCAA Championships in May. The ITA National Indoor Championships features a 32-player singles field and 16-team doubles field for men and women. Overall, more than 7,000 players from nearly 600 schools participate annually in the ITA Regional and National Intercollegiate Championships.
