Oct. 21, 2012
MEMPHIS - - Three Tigers singles players advanced to the quarterfinals in the singles draw at the USTA/ITA Ohio Valley Regionals held at The Racquet Club of Memphis, Sunday. David O'Leary was the first Tiger into the quarterfinals, with a 6-4, 7-6 victory over Tennessee's Brandon Fickey. O'Leary will face No. 12 seeded Ryan Lipman of Vanderbilt at 10 a.m., Monday. Lipman took out the tournament's top seed, Anthony Rossi, in the Round of 16 to earn the match-up with O'Leary. Joe Salisbury, who made a run all the way from the prequalifying to the main draw at the ITA All-Americans, upended No. 6 seeded Sebastian Stiefelmeyer from Louisville, 6-1, 2-6, 7-5, to earn a match-up against No. 2 seeded Mikelis Libietis of Tennessee at 11 a.m., Monday. Connor Glennon made it three for five for the Tigers into the quarterfinals with a come-from-behind thriller. Glennon, the No. 10 seed in the draw, dropped his first set, 6-3, then rallied back for a 7-5 second set win over No. 8 seeded Isade Juneau from Indiana. Glennon then found himself down 4-1 in the third, but came all the way back to win the final set, 6-4, to advance to an 11 a.m. match against Tom Jomby from Kentucky, the No. 4 seed. Fellow Tigers David O'Hare and Johnny Grimal were not quite as lucky as their teammates. Grimal came close to overhauling the No. 3 seed in the draw, but fell 7-5, 7-6 to Vanderbilt's Gonzales Austin, while O'Hare fell to Jomby, 6-4, 6-2, missing a possible match-up with teammate Connor Glennon in the quarterfinals.
