Memphis Doubles Duo Advances to Semifinals at ITA Regional

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Memphis doubles tandem of Charlie Ramsey and Leon Nasemann won three matches at the ITA Ohio Valley Regional doubles draw in Bloomington, Ind., before losing in the semifinals. Ramsey and Nasemann began the weekend's doubles competition with a win over Wright State's Landon Neuman and Brian Dredge, 8-0. Neuman and Dredge played the No. 2 doubles position for Wright State last season. In the second round, the Memphis duo upended Vanderbilt's Bryant Salcedo and Charlie Jones, 9-7. Vanderbilt finished last season as the 61st-ranked team in the nation according to collegetennisonline.com In the quarterfinal round, Nasemann and Ramsay defeated Eastern Kentucky's Alex Das Izquierdo and Carles Pons Escanilla, 8-6. In the semifinal round of the ITA regional, the Memphis pair was matched up with inner-state rival Tennessee. The Tigers took on the Volunteers' Davey Sandgren and John-Patrick Smith, who finished last season as the No. 1 doubles duo in the nation. Sandgren and Smith defeated Nasemann and Ramsay, 8-2. In other action at the ITA regional, Nasemann, a junior from Wuppertahl, Germany, picked up a win in the main singles draw, defeating Ball State's Dalton Albertin, 6-3, 6-2. In the second round of the main singles draw, Nasemann fell at the hands of Louisville's Simon Childs in a three-set gem, 4-6, 7-6(8), 6-3. Childs finished last season as the No. 121 singles netter in the nation for the 22nd-ranked Louisville Cardinals. Also, Ramsay, a senior from Chattanooga, Tenn., fell in the first round of action in a three-set battle with Kentucky's Bradley Cox, 5-7, 6-2, 6-4. Cox played the No. 2 position for the 15th-ranked Wildcats last season. Michael Hayes, a senior from London, England, fell to Eastern Kentucky's Alex Das in the first round, 6-1, 6-3. In doubles, Hayes and Michael Janz fell in the first round to Butler's Lenz Theodor and Stephen McLoughlin, 8-2.
