Memphis Netters Finish Fall Season

TUSACLOOSA, Ala. - The University of Memphis men's tennis squad wrapped up the fall portion of its schedule over the weekend as three players competed in the 2011 Crimson Tide Fall Championships. David Henry, Cedric De Zutter and Daniel Shidler all won at least one singles match as the Tigers capped off a successful fall season. "I'm really proud of our guys for the way they played this fall," head coach Paul Goebel said. "The overall results were very positive. We just want to keep this momentum going into the offseason and start the spring on a high note." Henry, De Zutter and Shidler all dropped their first match in the top draw of singles competition, but all three responded with wins in the first round of the consolation draw. Henry defeated Chriss Helliar of UAB 6-2,6-7(4),11-9, while De Zutter moved past Danny Manlow of UAB 6-4,2-6,10-8. Shidler knocked off Ethan Kallick of Davidson 6-4,7-5 in the first round of consolation play. Henry and De Zutter also paired together to compete in the double draw, winning two matches before being knocked off 8-6 by Alex Bernard and Romain Boccaert of South Alabama. Before that defeat, the duo defeated Dalton Albertin and Ray Leonard of BSU 8-1 and Hunter Koontz and Lucas Oliviera of Virgiina Tech 8-5.
