MEMPHIS, Tenn. - On the heels of one of the best wins in program history, the Memphis men's tennis team jumped into the ITA rankings at No. 46. In its season opener last Friday, the Tigers defeated then-No. 13 Tennessee, marking a pair of milestones for the U of M.

With the win over in-state rival Tennessee, Memphis defeated the highest-ranked opponent in the history of the program. After stumbling each of the nine previous times the two teams met, the Tigers beat the Vols for the first time in the series history.

The Tigers were unranked in the preseason poll, but the jump to No. 46 was the largest move by a single team. Memphis spent six weeks in the poll last season, reaching as high as the 53rd-ranked team, before dropping out after the March 1st poll.
