Tiger Tennis Hosts Two Matches on Friday

Memphis, Tenn- - The University of Memphis men's tennis team looks to get back in the win column as they return to action on Friday, February 8th at The Racquet Club of Memphis. The Tigers are set to host a pair of opponents on Friday, taking on Southern Illinois and Murray State. The match against Southern Illinois will start at 11 am and the match against Murray State will begin at 7 pm.
Memphis and Southern Illinois will face off for the 19th time in the history of the two programs. The Tigers currently hold the all-time series lead over the Salukis at a mark of 11-7. The last match between the two squads took place on March 22, 2008, and ended in a 4-3 victory for the Tigers. The Salukis come to town riding a two-match win streak and an overall record of 2-1.
The Racers of Murray State are no stranger as an opponent of the Tigers as the two teams will face each other for the 56th time on Friday. Memphis leads the all-time series 32-13 and comes in to the match having won 15 straight matches against the Racers. The Tigers took the most recent match in dominating fashion, winning 7-0 at home on February 5, 2012. Head coach Paul Goebel is perfect against Murray State having defeated the Racers all seven times he has faced them. Murray State is currently 0-4 on the young season and is slated to face Abilene Christian on Thursday before taking on the Tigers Friday evening.
Memphis enters Friday's action with a 1-2 record and ranked No. 32 in the ITA rankings after opening the season against three ranked opponents. Joe Salisbury will be looking to pick up career singles win number 50 in Friday's action.
