Tigers Set To Take On Itawamba CC and Meridian CC on Thursday, Mississippi State on Friday

MEMPHIS, Tenn. - The Memphis men's tennis team returns to action on Thur., Feb. 25, when they face-off with Itawamba Community College and Meridian Community College at the Itawamba Community College Tennis Courts in Tupelo, Miss. The Tigers will face the Indians at 10 a.m. (CST), followed by a 2 p.m., expected start time against the Eagles of Meridian Community College. "We are ready to get in a couple of matches on Thursday against good competition from Itawamba Community College and Meridian Community College," said Memphis head coach Paul Goebel. "We hope that the two matches on Thursday will help get us prepared for our match on Friday against Mississippi State." The Tigers enter Thursday's matches with a 3-4 overall record after picking up two wins last weekend over Rhodes and North Alabama. Charlie Ramsay, a senior from Chattanooga, Tenn., currently has a 4-3 record for the Tigers at the No. 1, No. 2 and No. 3 singles positions. Ramsay and Memphis junior netter Michael Gaerthoeffner are currently tied for the team lead in singles wins with four. In doubles, the No. 3 pair of Ramsay and Spencer Heflin come into Thursday's duals with a 5-2 overall record. The pair of seniors have won two-straight doubles matches, after defeating both of their opponents last weekend. The Tigers match on Friday against Mississippi State is set to commence at 1:30 p.m. (CST) in Starkville, Miss. The Bulldogs come into the match with a 5-3 record. They are currently ranked 58th in the nation. The Bulldogs currently have three singles netters ranked in the Top-125 nationally. Louis Cant leads the way for Mississippi State at No. 64 in the nation, followed by George Coupland, ranked 85th, and Antonio Lastre, ranked No. 122.
