Feb. 25, 2014
MEMPHIS - -
Senior men's tennis player Joe Salisbury was named the American Athletic Conference men's player of the week, Tuesday.
Salisbury picked up a pair of ranked wins over the weekend and clinched Memphis' 4-3 win at No. 25 Harvard with his win at No. 2 singles.
After helping the Tigers to a 4-3 win at No. 52 Dartmouth College to start the weekend, Salisbury teamed with David O'Hare to knock off the No. 14 ranked doubles team in the country (Nguyen/MacMaster) in an 8-7 win at No. 1 doubles at Harvard. O'Hare and Salisbury are now 2-1 against top 25 ranked doubles teams on the season.
In that Harvard match, the match was tied at 3-3 when Salisbury won his third set over No. 103 ranked Shaun Chaudhuri, 6-0, to seal Memphis' fifth dual win of the spring. Salisbury is now 3-3 in the spring against ranked singles opponents with four of those matches being against top 50 ranked opponents.
This is Salisbury's second career honor from the American Athletic Conference. He shared the player of the month award with teammate David O'Hare back in October.
Men's tennis will get back on the court, Monday, at 2 p.m. against No. 67 Louisiana.
