Men's Tennis Wins Sportsmanship Honor
March 11, 2002 Corpus Christi, Texas -
The championship match of the H.E.B. Collegiate Team Championships may have been rained out on Sunday, but the men's tennis team still got a victory. The Tigers were voted the sportsmanship award at the event. The award normally goes to one player, but four Memphis players tied for first in balloting of coaches and tournament officials, so the award was given to the entire team. As a result, Memphis receives a $500 scholarship donation in the name of the H.E.B. Collegiate Team Championship. The Tigers were scheduled to play #22 Middle Tennessee in the championship, but weather prevented the match from being completed. The Tigers and Blue Raiders were declared co-champions.
