Tiger Tennis Team Falls at UT-Arlington
March 12, 2000 Arlington, Texas -- - The University of Memphis men's tennis team fell to 4-11 and dropped their second match on their seven-day road trip through Texas with a 5-2 loss to UT-Arlington, Sunday. The Tigers also fell to No. 15 Texas Christian, 7-0, Saturday. The Tigers opened by winning the doubles point when they won the No. 1 and No. 2 doubles matches. The Australian duo of junior Alistair Todd (Perth, Australia) and freshman Ben Stapp (Sydney, Australia) won the Tigers' slot at No. 1 doubles, 8-5, over the team of Andy Leber and Ola Bentzen while the No. 2 team of Chris Buckley and Richard Magney downed Zarzeczny/Goldshuv, 8-4. But the Tigers were unable to win more than one point in play when junior Daniel Demacek (Povazsha Bystvica, Slovakia/North Penn) defeated Tom Zarzeczny in straight sets, 6-3, 6-3. Memphis has two matches scheduled for Monday, including a match against nationally-ranked Rice University in Houston, Texas, at 1 p.m. The Tigers will also face Lamar University at 8 a.m., Sunday, before a three-day break in Texas.
