MEMPHIS, Tenn. - The Memphis men's tennis team will face conference foe Southern Miss on Sun., Mar. 28 in Hattiesburg, Miss. The Tigers enter Sunday's match with the Golden Eagles with an overall record of 7-8 on the season.

The Tigers' doubles teams have won 11 of 14 doubles points this season. Jordan Smith and David Henry lead the Memphis doubles duos with an overall mark of 10-3 season, including wins over opponents from ranked teams Iowa and Mississippi.

Spencer Heflin and Charlie Ramsay are close behind Smith and Henry with a record of 9-4 on the year. Heflin and Ramsay, both seniors for Coach Paul Goebel's squad, have wins over foes from ranked foes Tulsa and Oklahoma State.

John Taylor and Michael Janz are 4-2 on the year in doubles. The pair has wins over Murray State, Rhodes, North Alabama and Meridian Community College and Itawamba Community College.

In singles, Charlie Ramsay, a senior from Chattanooga, Tenn., is 6-7 on the year at the No. 1 spot. Ramsay has assumed the role of No. 1 singles player for most of the matches after a season-ending injury sidelined Leon Nasemann, a junior from Wuppertahl, Germany.

Michael Gaerthoeffner, a junior from Rheine, Germany, leads the Tigers in singles win with an overall mark of 10-5 on the season. Gaerthoeffner is 6-1 at the No. 5 spot.

Southern Miss enters Sunday's match with a 6-8 record. The Golden Eagles last played on Friday against No. 37 Alabama. Southern Miss fell to the Crimson Tide, 5-2.

 

 

The Golden Eagles are led in singles by Patricio Alvardo. The sophomore from Manta, Ecuador, owns a 7-5 singles mark on the year.

In doubles, Jan Burmeister and Julien Roussel are 7-5 on the season at the No. 1 and No. 3 spot.
