MEMPHIS, Tenn. - For the ninth-straight week, Paul Goebel's men's tennis team is listed in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association rankings, checking in at No. 32. Undefeated freshman David O'Leary is ranked No. 120 in singles and fellow-freshman Connor Glennon is ranked 125th.
Memphis is 14-3 on the season, its best start since a 14-3 beginning to the 1988 campaign. The Tigers are owners of wins over No. 13 Tennessee, No. 43 Vanderbilt, No. 70 Stetson and No. 63 Tulane, with each of their three losses coming to ranked opponents, No. 49 UNC-Wilmington, No. 22 Ole Miss and No. 64 Rice. Six of the seven teams are still listed in the rankings, Tennessee (16), Ole Miss (14), UNC-Wilmington (35), Vanderbilt (38), Rice (42) and Stetson (74), with only Tulane resting outside the top-75 teams. All of the ranked opponents which the U of M has faced this season have come at a road or neutral site.
A native of Coventry, England, O'Leary is unbeaten 16 matches into his first season for the Blue and Gray and has ridden his undefeated record to a ranking of No. 120 in singles play. Glennon, who owns a win over then-No. 35 William Kallberg from Ole Miss, checked in at No. 125. Both O'Leary and Glennon have been ranked in the last two releases of the individual rankings.
Memphis will travel to Dallas, Texas for a match with SMU on Sunday, April 1, at 2:00 p.m. (CT). The Mustangs are 8-7 on the season.
