Men's Tennis to Face Louisville and VCU This Weekend

Memphis, Tenn. - The University of Memphis men's tennis team will wrap up a lengthy stretch of road matches with a pair of weekend matches in Richmond, Virginia this weekend. The Tigers will first take on the Louisville Cardinals on Saturday, April 6, before squaring off with Virginia Commonwealth on Sunday, April 7.
Louisville currently has a record of 12-10 and is ranked No. 50 in the ITA rankings. The Cardinals have two players currently ranked in singles: No. 76 Sebastian Stiefelmeyer and No. 113 Alex Gornet. Memphis currently leads the all-time series 8-6 over Louisville despite having lost 4-1 in the last match between the two in 2002. The Cardinals have played three matches on neutral courts this season, posting a record of 1-2.
Sunday's match will be the first-ever meeting between Memphis and VCU. VCU currently has a record of 16-4 and is ranked No. 24 in the ITA rankings. VCU's doubles team of Alexis Heugas and Dylan McCloskey is currently ranked as the No. 24 doubles team in the nation while the doubles team of Jamie Vazquez Catoira and Alejandro Argente checks in at No. 58 in the doubles rankings. VCU also brings two ranked singles players to the match: No. 23 Max Wennakoski and Alexis Heugas. The Rams are currently a perfect 14-0 on their home court this season.
The Tigers head into the weekend as the No. 46 team in the nation after falling 12 spots in the latest rankings. Memphis is 7-7 on the season with a road record of 4-4 and a neutral site record of 0-2. Louisville and VCU will be the 12th and 13th ranked opponents the Tigers will face in just 16 matches so far this season. The Tigers' record against ranked opponents this season is 4-7.
