Connor Glennon Named C-USA Men's Tennis Player of the Week
April 9, 2013
Sophomore men's tennis player Connor Glennon (Loughborough, England/Loughborough College) was named the C-USA Men's Tennis Player of the Week, Tuesday, by the Conference USA office. It is his first career Player of the Week honor.
Glennon improved his mark at No. 1 singles to 7-6 on the season with a 6-4, 6-2 win over No. 76 Sebastian Stiefelmeyer of Louisville, Saturday. He also teamed with Cedric de Zutter for an 8-5 win at No. 1 doubles against Albert Wagner and Alex Gornet of UL. On Sunday, Glennon fell ill, but gutted through his match against No. 23 Max Wennakoski of VCU before dehydration got him in the third set tiebreak, falling 3-6, 6-3, 7-6. Memphis won 4-0 against No. 50 Louisville and 4-3 over No. 24 VCU.
Glennon was the C-USA Co-Freshman of the Year last season and was a first-team all-conference player in both singles and doubles in his first collegiate season. Glennon is 20-10 on the year in singles play (including 8-6 in dual season play) this year and has teamed with De Zutter to post a mark of 6-8 in dual season doubles play, including a 6-7 mark at No. 1 doubles.
Thirteen of Memphis' 16 opponents this season have been nationally-ranked and the Tigers have picked up two road wins over top 25 programs (at Cornell, at VCU).
Memphis returns home this week following an 11-match road schedule. The Tigers host UAB, Friday, at 2 p.m. at The Racquet Club of Memphis and then host South Alabama, Sunday, at noon. Admission for all U of M tennis matches is free.
Memphis will be the host city for the Conference USA men's tennis championships, beginning on Thursday, April 18th. That tournament will be held at MUS.
