April 15, 2009
MEMPHIS, Tenn. - Memphis men's tennis netter Benedikt Fischer was announced as a member of the Academic All-C-USA team for the third season in a row this morning by the Conference USA office. Fischer, a senior from Dusseldorf, Germany, currently carries a 4.0 while working his way toward a second degree from the U of M in business finance. Fischer already graduated from Memphis with a degree in international business. Last season, the Memphis netter became the program's first- ever CoSIDA Academic All-American. During his time at Memphis, Fischer has also twice been named an ITA Scholar-Athlete and is a two-time C-USA Academic Medalist and Academic Honor Roll member. On the court, Fischer has teamed with Jordan Smith to put up the team's best doubles record. The tandem has put up a 16-7 record this season. In singles, Fischer is currently 10-12 while competing at the No. 2, No. 3, No. 4 and No. 5 positions. The all-academic team consists of student-athletes who have earned a 3.2 cumulative grade point average or better and are a regular participant on their team. Tulsa's Arnau Brugues was the only other player on this year's team that is making his third straight appearance.
