Joe Salisbury Named to C-USA All-Academic Team

MEMPHIS - - Junior men's tennis player Joe Salisbury (London, England/Surrey State) was named to the C-USA All-Academic team it was announced by the Conference USA office, Tuesday. This is the first All-Academic Team honor for Salisbury from the league office. He becomes the first Tiger to earn C-USA All-Academic Team honors since Michael Gaerthoeffner was named to the team in 2010.
Salisbury sports a 3.74 GPA in business economics. He was 16-5 in singles play during the fall season, including a stint where he won his way from the prequalifying draw to the main draw at the ITA All-American Championships, becoming the first player in school history to compete in the ITA All-American main draw. He is currently 21-14 in singles play on the season and is 51-41 in singles for his three-year Tiger career. His 51 career singles wins ties for sixth-most in school history.
With doubles partner David O'Hare, they are currently ranked No. 51 in the country with an 8-2 mark, including a 2-1 mark at No. 1 doubles.
Salisbury was a first team All-C-USA Doubles honoree in 2012 and is a five-time member of the Tiger 3.0 Club, a four-time Dean's List honoree and a three-time Tiger Academic 30 award winner. He has appeared on the C-USA Academic Honor Roll three times and has been a Commissioner's Academic Medalist twice, as well as an ITA Scholar-Athlete one time.
Salisbury and his Tiger teammates will host the Conference USA men's tennis championships, which begin Thursday, at MUS. Memphis will open its slate against UAB, Friday, at 2 p.m. in a rematch of a contest played just a week ago.
Salisbury is joined on the C-USA All-Academic Team by Old Dominion's Carlos Lopez Villa, SMU's Misha Nowicki, Tulsa's Clifford Marsland and UCF's Jorge Blasco.
