Memphis Doubles Team Nationally Ranked
April 26, 2002 Memphis, Tenn. - Despite losing two matches in last week's Conference USA Championship, the men's tennis team maintained its national ranking of 64th, according to the latest Omni Hotels Intercollegiate Tennis Association rankings. Memphis has been ranked for all but one week of the 2002 season. The Tigers' number one doubles team of Ben Stapp and Lee Taylor Walker also returned to the rankings. The pair was ranked briefly early in the season and this week returned at 58th , according to the ITA. The ITA uses a computer formula to rank players and teams based on success and strength of opponents.
Unless Memphis receives an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament, the Tigers season will end at 16-8, one of the most successful on record at the University of Memphis.
