MEMPHIS, Tenn. - Jorge Vazquez was selected as one of six members of the All-C-USA First Team as announced by the Conference USA office on Wednesday. Vazquez becomes only the second netter to be selected to the All-C-USA First Team, joining current Memphis women's tennis head coach Lee Taylor Walker who garnered the honor following the 2004 season.

Vazquez began the season as the 102nd-ranked netter before beginning the 2009 season with two victories over opponents ranked among the top 30 singles netters in the country. The native of La Coruna, Spain, peaked as high as the No. 51 singles player in the nation before finishing the year ranked 103rd in the country. He became only the second Memphis tennis player to remain in the rankings for an entire season joining Walker. Vazquez finished the 2009 season, his only year of competitive play for the Tigers, with a record of 12 wins and 10 losses including four wins over ranked opponents.

Vazquez is the 10th Memphis men's tennis player to be named to the All-C-USA team joining Walker, Alex Bucewicz, Michael Chamberlain, Richard Magney, Amrit Narasimhan, Joe Schmulian, James Spence, Ben Stapp and Sam Withell.

Coach Paul Goebel will have the tough assignment of replacing Vazquez and fellow senior Benedikt Fischer heading into the 2009-10 season. Despite losing the two seniors, Memphis will return eight players, all of which saw extensive action during the 2009 spring season.
