Tiger Tennis Player Named to GTE Academic All-District Team

Memphis, Tenn. -- - Tiger tennis player Michael LaHaie (West Lafayette, IN/West Lafayette) was named to the GTE Academic Second Team All-District IV, Tuesday.
LaHaie, a sophomore who served as this year's team captain, finished with a 16-12 record at No. 3 doubles with three different partners. He was also 5-5 in singles play, including a mark of 3-3 at No. 6 singles.
LaHaie was voted to the team by members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). To be nominated to the team, student-athletes must be a starter or important reserve and carry a cumulative grade point average of 3.20 or higher. LaHaie has a 4.00 GPA in international business.
LaHaie was also one of two Tiger tennis players to receive the Commissioner's Academic Medal earlier in January for having a GPA above 3.75. Junior Jack Hu (Nashville, TN) was the other medal winner.
There were three tennis players from C-USA schools on the All-District IV team, which includes schools in Alabama, Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio and Tennessee. UAB's Martin Woisetschlager, the league's Athlete of the Year, was named to the first team and will be on the national ballot. Louisville's Alex Sivertsen was also a second team recipient.
LaHaie was a 1998 graduate of West Lafayette High School where he finished with a 60-4 career singles record. He helped his team to a 23-1 record in 1998 and was the team MVP and an all-conference and all-state team member, in additional to being a member of the National Honor Society.
