Gaerthoeffner honored as 2009-10 Conference USA Men's Tennis Scholar Athlete of the Year

Memphis, Tenn.- University of Memphis netter Michael Gaerthoeffner has been honored as the 2009-10 Conference USA Men's Tennis Scholar Athlete of the Year as announced by league offices on Thursday. The honor is awarded to the top student-athlete in each conference-sponsored sport as determined by Faculty Athletics Representatives and is based on academic achievement (GPA), athletic achievement and service. The Rheine, Germany, native is expected to graduate this summer after only three years on campus--with a degree in International Business. During his tenure, Gaerthoeffner has been named as a C-USA Academic Medalist each of his three seasons. "Michael has set a great example for our student-athletes and he has become an asset to our program," head coach Paul Goebel stated. "He makes the most of each day and he is absolutely ready to take the next step in life."
